Val seems to be a young person, maybe around 10 or so, thinking that she can’t go to the beach herself. And she lives close to the ocean, since when she does go there, she walks. Her knowledge to when it comes to shells is great, possibly because of the shells she collect to her little seashell collection. She also seems to be very stubborn. Whenever she wants something, she’ll do anything to have it, or accomplish it. An example of that is that she wants her grandmother to like the place she lives in and stay, Florida, and tries her best to make that happen. But that can also show some selfishness (Hah, get it? Selfish? SHELL — FISH? EH? :D). Her grandmother wants to move back to New York, but Val doesn’t want that to happen, thinking that she would live at a nursing home.
